something about liverpool

  • Earlier this season Liverpool won at City by a single goal scored by John Arne Riise making his 150th league appearance for the Reds. It was the club's first win at the City Of Manchester Stadium.
  • Here last season Liverpool defeated City 2-1. Nicolas Anelka gave the visitors the lead on the stroke of half time. Steven Gerrard scored the winner after Milan Baros had equalised.
  • Astonishingly, it was the first time in more than five years that Liverpool had come from behind at half-time to win any game.
  • Michael Owen in September 2002 at Maine Road scored Liverpool's last hat-trick against City.
  • Liverpool have only lost two of the last eleven league meetings home and away.
  • Rafa Benitez's first game in charge of Liverpool at Anfield came against City last season.
Since the inception of the Premier League Liverpool have won eight of the 17 meetings with City winning three.
  • The meeting between the sides back in November was the 150th in all competitions.
  • In Liverpool's last home league game, against Arsenal, Jamie Carragher became the 24th player in the club's history to make 400 appearances for the club. The next person on the list for him to catch is John Barnes who played 407 times for the Reds.
  • Liverpool have lost just three of the last 18 league games and are unbeaten in the last 13 matches at Anfield in all competitions.
  • In those 13 games no opposition player has managed to score a goal. They have conceded just one-a Xabi Alonso own goal against Birmingham.
  • Should Liverpool win today they will be on 54 points- their highest ever tally in the Premiership after 27 games.
  • Xabi Alonso could make his 50th league appearance for the Reds today.
Harry Kewell is poised to play the 350th club game of his career.
The Reds have won each of the last three games immediately following a European game.
  • Last season City finished eighth-their best ever Premiership finish. Had Robbie Fowler not missed a last minute penalty on the final day against Middlesbrough they would have qualified for the UEFA Cup.
  • City's last away league win came at Charlton in December when they won 5-2. Since then they have picked up one point from five games on their travels.
They have picked up four points out of a possible 27 in their last nine away games in the top-flight.
This season Bradley Wright-Phillips has made 16 appearances for City-all as a substitute.
