• Earlier this season Liverpool won at City by a single goal scored by John Arne Riise making his 150th league appearance for the Reds. It was the club's first win at the City Of Manchester Stadium.
  
• Here last season Liverpool defeated City 2-1. Nicolas Anelka gave the visitors the lead on the stroke of half time. Steven Gerrard scored the winner after Milan Baros had equalised.
  
• Astonishingly, it was the first time in more than five years that Liverpool had come from behind at half-time to win any game.
  
• Michael Owen in September 2002 at Maine Road scored Liverpool's last hat-trick against City.
  
• Liverpool have only lost two of the last eleven league meetings home and away.
  
• Rafa Benitez's first game in charge of Liverpool at Anfield came against City last season.

• City's last away league win came at Charlton in December when they won 5-2. Since then they have picked up one point from five games on their travels.
  They have picked up four points out of a possible 27 in their last nine away games in the top-flight.
